A Hurricane in Dover 65 Years Ago

Did you know in August 25, 1954, Hurricane Carol hit Dover?

The Library skylight caved in during this storm, narrowly missing Librarian Anne Elizabeth Leach.Nine windows were broken in St. Mary's School. Moore's Boatyard was almost wiped out and the B & M freight shed was blown to the ground. The First Parish Church lost two stained glass windows and several windows in the Steeple. An Orchard Street tree came down on cars belonging to Armand Dureau, John Dubois, and George Webster. Foster's Daily Democrat could not be published for the first time in 82 years due to the power outage.
