February School Vacation Events at the Dover Public Library


Winter Break Events at the Dover Public Library

     Join us at the Dover Public Library for a week of fun FREE activities for the entire family. We kick-off vacation week on Saturday, February 22 at 2pm with our popular STEM Saturday. Kids in grades kindergarten and up are invited to design, build, and compete with paper airplanes. Prizes awarded for the longest flight and most creative.
        Superhero fans, don’t miss the Mini Marvel Avengers Marathon on Monday, February 24. “Avengers: Infinity War” (PG-13) will begin at 2:30 pm, then pizza and refreshments will be served from 5:00-5:30, and “Avengers: Endgame” (PG-13) begins at 5:30 pm.

     Do you like to crack codes and solve puzzles? We need your help to breakout out of Mr. Lemoncello’s Library on Wednesday, February 25. Sign up for this escape room based on the children’s book by Chris Grabenstein. Kids in grades two through four can register for the 2pm session and those in grade five and up should sign up for the 3pm session at the library’s website: library.dover.nh.gov.

      Fans of the graphic novel series “Dog Man” by Dav Pilkey will not want to miss “Dog Man Mania” on Wednesday, February 26 from 2 to 4pm. Crafts, games, activities, and snacks will all be part of the fun. Every kid who attends will be entered in a raffle to win a Dog Man T-shirt! On Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8pm, patrons from ten to one hundred and ten are invited to make whimsical yarn birds in our Maker Space. Space is limited so please go to library.dover.nh.gov to register.
          On Thursday, February 27 from 2 to 3pm, animal lovers will be treated to a live animal show by Curious Creatures https://www.curiouscreatures.org/. Get up close to some fascinating mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.   
         Have you ever wanted to walk the runway in a fashion show? You’ll get your chance to show off your favorite pajamas at our “Pajamarama” event on Friday, February 28. The fashion show will begin at 10:30am, and there will be crafts, activities, and hot chocolate and donuts from 10am until noon. Don’t forget your blankets and stuffies! Also on Friday, from 2 to 4pm, kids in grades three and up can join us for Electrifying STEM. Experiment with Snap Circuits, Makey Makeys, and other kits to learn how electricity works.
            On Saturday, February 29, we end our action-packed week with a “Take Your Child to the Library Day” celebration. From 9 to 11am families are invited to enjoy pancakes with our special guest, Elmo! At 11am local author and illustrator Aaron Risi will perform songs based on his children’s book “A Moose with a Uke”. At 2pm we will show the movie “Arctic Dogs” (PG). There will be crafts, Legos, and raffles from 9 to 5pm, including a special raffle for any child who gets his/her first library card that day (must be five years old).         
           We have plenty of events planned to keep families busy and engaged during school vacation week. For more information, call the Children’s Room at 516-6052. And don’t forget about books, audiobooks, downloadable materials, museum passes, and all the other services that the Dover Public Library offers.  Library hours are Monday through Thursday 9am to 8:30pm; Friday 9am to 5:30pm; Saturday 9am to 5pm; and Sunday 1-5pm.
