What's Your Best?

My son's daycare is having Book Day which is when they can each bring in there favorite book to share with the class. He refers to his favorite things as his best, and so he is puzzling over which book is his best. This has made me think about which book is my best--what would I take in to share with others? I haven't come up with an answer because I have books that I love that are in different categories--mystery, historical fiction, non-fiction, adventure.... and it doesn't seem fair to make them compete with one another. I have come up with one of my best summer reads-- Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. It might be time to give this a reread. What's your best?

I thought of two right away; The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and The Dove by Robin Lee Graham. These made a huge impression on me when I was young.

I couldn't have just one best. To Kill a Mockingbird remains a fave. So does Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. I also loved Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. But then the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series, too. See what you've started?

I think The Name of the Rose is special to me because it was the first real grown-up book I read on my own (not for school) in 9th grade. Anne of Green Gables and Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley and Me, Elizabeth are also "bests" to me.
