Back to School Books

Its almost that time of year when the air gets crisper, leaves start changing colors, and kids go back to school. Sometimes I miss that feeling of fresh new start, new teacher, new clothes, and a clean new notebook or binder. if you miss those days, relive your memories by reading these novels that take place at boarding schools. These books are much more suspenseful than your average day at school. Prepare to be kept up at night.

Great Bay Estuary Family Program

Join us this Wednesday at 10AM for a fun family program as we learn about the Great Bay Estuary. A UNH docent will use props, short video clips, and illustrative photos to show students how different plants and animals survive in one of earth's most challenging environments. Participants will learn about the Great Bay Estuary's three main habitats: eel grass meadows, mud flats, and salt marshes and then will be challenged to explain the different adaptations in each. Why are the legs of the great blue heron different from those of the osprey? What does a clam do exactly when there's no water left at low tide? How can marsh grass grow in such salty water? This program is recommended for students entering grades Kindergarten through six. No sign-up is required.

Get a Museum Pass @ DPL

Did you know you can get passes from the Library that offers free or discounted admission to 19 museums? You can reserve any of the Library’s museum passes online through our website. It's a great way to see what we have to offer, and when a pass is available, without having to wait until the Library is open. Links are provided to each institution’s website, so you can quickly see what is on exhibition for that day. To reserve a pass you will need your Dover Public Library Card (in good standing: i.e. not owing us over $10), and your library PIN (which was originally set to the last 4 digits of your phone number). Don’t worry if you are uncomfortable reserving online, you can always call us at 516-6050, or come in. We will gladly do it for you. Passes are kept in the Children’s Room and at the Circulation Desk.
