Looking for a professional full time job at the Dover Public Library?
The City of Dover is seeking a responsible individual to perform professional library work at the library’s circulation desks, with most hours at the Adult circulation desk, but will also be trained to work in the Children’s Room. Evening and weekend hours are required. This is a full-time, 35 hour per week position. $17.79 to $25.20 per hour. Position is open until filled.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class):
Primary responsibilities are to be customer-focused by providing a welcoming, friendly presence at busy library circulation desks, serving a diverse population, while efficiently handling patron encounters in cooperation with other staff scheduled at the desk. Circulation desk staff are the main contact point with most patrons and visitors to the library including those who contact the library via telephone.

3. Checks library materials inside and out, collects fines, and handle renewals and holds.
4. Register new borrowers and gives them an introduction to the library and its policies, procedures and services.
5. Answer ready-reference questions, including readers’ advisory services using Novelist, Read-A-likes and library book mark suggestions.
6. Answer directional questions and provide guidance in the organization and location of materials in the library.
7. Instruct patrons in the use of the online catalog, self-checkout station, public computers, and copiers. Has a basic knowledge of library’s website and digital resources available to patrons such as Overdrive and Hoopla. Also, perform basic troubleshooting of computers.
8. Develop skills using the Library’s event calendar and assisting patrons with program registration and museum pass reservations. Use Outlook calendar to schedule passports and meeting room appointments.
9. Re-shelve popular items in the Browse and Reference rooms, while overseeing the desk.
10. Answer the main library phone line, answering questions or directing calls as needed.
11. Train to become a Passport Agent in order to be a member of the library’s passport acceptance team.
12. May be assigned duties pertaining to displays and programming. May assist with special projects like weeding and inventory of the collection.
13. Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Excellent written, oral and analytical skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to help patrons troubleshoot basic issues with computers and phones. Experience with an ILS (Koha is a plus). Ability to help patrons identify trustworthy web resources. Attention to detail essential and the ability to multi-task. Strong customer service skills imperative, and experience working in a fast-paced public library. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the public and to deal with service problems courteously and tactfully.EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program; two (2) years’ experience in professional librarian work; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid motor vehicle operator license.
