2016 Summer Reading Program details

Kids!
Are you ready for a summer full of fun and games? “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!”, the Children’s Summer Reading Program at the Dover Public Library, begins on Tuesday, June 21. From 2pm to 4pm that day, we’ll kick-off with a Summer Celebration. Register for the program during this time and enjoy crafts, food, and visitors from Holy Rosary Credit Union and Texas Roadhouse. Everyone who attends will also be entered into a raffle for a special prize. Don’t worry, if you can’t make it to this event you can sign-up anytime during the six- week program.
When kids entering grades K-6 sign-up, they will choose which team they would like to be on: Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, or Red Sox. Throughout the summer, check the scoreboard in the Children’s Room to see which team is reading the most minutes. Which one of our beloved New England teams will prevail?
Preschoolers are encouraged to register for the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program and complete a summer reading activity sheet. Not only will participants enjoy some great books, audiobooks, and ebooks, they will also have the opportunity to earn prizes.

We also have lots of special events planned throughout the program.

Saturday, June 25 from 10am to 12pm: Snap Circuit Fun! The Dover Shockwave Robotics Team members will be on hand to help kids build projects with Snap Circuits. This is a great way to introduce kids to electrical circuits while having fun!

Participants will also compete in a Horcrux Scavenger Hunt and trivia contest for Harry Potter prizes.
Tuesday, August 2 at 6pm on the front lawn: We will wrap up our summer reading program with our final celebration. TJ Wheeler will entertain us with his family-friendly blues music. Traditional lawn games and food will also be part of this fun-filled evening.

But wait, that’s not all. Every week there will be a new sports-themed craft at our Creation Station. Stop in anytime to make and take your creation. Wednesdays at 10am, there will be a drop-in Family Storytime featuring books, songs, fingerplays, and games. Friday mornings are for our youngest patrons. “Mother Goose on the Loose”, a special program for infants through 2 year olds with a caregiver, will begin at 10am. From 10:30-11:00am we will offer “Toddler Exploration Time” featuring sensory activities. Our popular “Music with benji” program at 11am will get the whole family singing and dancing. Every Saturday during the summer reading program is a “LEGO Saturday”. Come in anytime between 9am and 1pm to build with our Legos and Duplos.

And one more thing….we will take the program on the road this year. On Fridays from 11:30am-1pm we will be at the Seymour Osman Community Center. Participants in the summer reading program will be able to report their reading time, get prizes, and return and check out books. There will also be a storytime with crafts and activities.
