For Fans of Downton Abbey

If you are a big fan of PBS's Downton Abbey series then you know that one episode a week is not enough. We have created a brand new bookmark of suggested reading and viewing just for you. Try the books and DVDs on this list which cover the Edwardian period, class differences, manor life, and the lives of the serving classes. Gosford Park was written by Julian Fellowes, the same man who created Downton Abbey, and is a terrific movie in its own right. It also stars Dame Maggie Smith so how can you go wrong?

  1. I really enjoyed learning more about the time period and context of Downtown Abbey. I loved seeing images of the time period and learning more about the WWI, families, marriage, and other aspects of life that Downtown Abbey explores.They did a great job of talking about how the characters relate to the historical period. They have some great images from the time period that show nursing, style, and society of the time period. For example, they have some great information about nurses and the training they received as volunteers during WWI along with some images of nursing posters for the time period. My favorite was the cartoons of the pantsuits that Sybil's shocking dinner outfit was based on.

    I also enjoyed all the commentary from the cast and the details about the intensity of the filming. It was a fascinating read.
